Every space
rocket is built upon Isaac Newton’s 3rd Law of Dynamics
according to which: for each force (action) there is an equal
and opposite force exerted on an agent by the body acted upon
(reaction). The following experiment was inspired on an 18th
Century didactic instrument (illustrative of this Law) kept
at the Physics Museum of the University of Coimbra where it
is displayed to the public
Peanuts contain a certain amount
of chemical energy, which we use whenever this nut enters our
diet. What happens really is that the peanut’s potential
energy undergoes a transformation inside our body in order to
produce work.
The advertisement
we watch over and over on the T.V. wants us to believe that
the brand on display lasts much longer than all the other batteries
on the market. But is it really so?
